Facts of the case

The case was filed in January 2018, after the place of worship was repeatedly stoned by unidentified individuals. Prior to the attacks in June 2017, the area police and residents have made inquiries about the relevant documentation from the area Divisional Secretariat or the Department of Christian Affairs authorising his activities. Following these inquiries, the pastor was requested to stop the religious activities by the police.

Thereafter in July 2018, officers of the Attanagalle Pradeshiya Sabha had visited the pastor due to a petition signed by around 100 villagers complaining about the level of noise from the church. The said officers had requested the pastor to cease religious activities and to relocate.
